Dr Tham Wedatilake

Sports and Exercise Medicine

MBBCh MRCP FFSEM MSc.

Dr Wedatilake MBBCh (Hons) MRCP FFSEM Dip.SEM(GB&I) completed his Sports and Exercise Medicine specialist training at the Oxford University Hospitals NHS trust. He is a fellow of the faculty of Sport and Exercise Medicine. He currently holds NHS Sport and Exercise Medicine consultant posts at University Hospitals of Leicester and Oxford University Hospitals NHS trusts.
Dr Wedatilake has expertise in managing football related injuries and is a medical officer at Southampton Football Club. He consults to the England and Wales Cricket Board, and works closely with the England Lions Academy and women’s programs. He is also the doctor for Surrey County Cricket team.

Dr Wedatilake also works at the English Institute of Sport and has expertise and experiences in working with Great Britain teams such as swimming, modern pentathlon, athletics, rhythmic gymnastics, synchronised swimming and hockey. He was a team leader for medical provision at the London 2012 Olympic Games at the basketball venue.

He is a clinical tutor at the Bath University Sport and Exercise Medicine postgraduate course and also a tutor at the postgraduate musculoskeletal ultrasound course at Bournemouth University and continues to be involved with sport and exercise medicine research through Oxford University.

His special interests include muscle injuries, tendinopathy, stress fractures and groin pain.
