The pathway

Send us your PSA result and we arrange the right MRI, biparametric where PSA is below the raised threshold, multiparametric where it is raised. A consultant radiologist reports every scan. If PSA is missing we can do the blood test on the day.

Age-adjusted PSA thresholds we use

  • 40, 49, above 2.5 ng/ml is raised
  • 50, 59, above 3.5 ng/ml is raised
  • 60, 69, above 4.5 ng/ml is raised
  • 70, 79, above 6.5 ng/ml is raised

What happens next

Reassuring scans are told plainly. Where the finding suggests further action, we route to the NHS 28-day pathway where clinically appropriate and transfer images free of charge, so nothing is repeated.
