CT scanning may be recommended when initial assessments and tests haven n not provided clear answers for your symptoms. This advanced imaging can help investigate unexplained weight loss, persistent abdominal symptoms, unusual lumps or swellings and other non-specific symptoms that warrant detailed internal examination.
What CT Scanning Shows
CT scanning uses X-rays and computer processing to create detailed cross-sectional images of the body. This allows our radiologists to examine organs, blood vessels, bones and soft tissues in detail, identifying abnormalities that may not be visible on standard X-rays or ultrasound.
The Scanning Process
CT scans are quick, typically taking just 10-30 minutes. You will lie comfortably on a scanning table that moves through the CT machine. For some scans, a contrast dye may be used to enhance visibility of certain structures. Our experienced radiographers ensure you are comfortable and informed throughout the process.
Rapid Results and Follow-Up
Your scan is interpreted by specialist radiologists, with results typically available within a few days. A follow-up consultation is arranged to discuss findings, explain what they mean for you and outline any recommended next steps in your care pathway.
