Prostate pathway, self-referral

Tell us your details and upload a recent PSA blood-test result. Our team will confirm your prostate MRI appointment on a day that suits you. If you have not had a recent PSA, call us and we can help arrange one.

The pathway is for men aged 40 to 79, and the right scan depends on your age and PSA level, see the prostate pathway for the thresholds. Triage can differ case by case; our clinical team confirms the right scan for you.

Are you a patient or a clinician?
Multiparametric MRI is not available at Brighton. If your PSA is raised, we will offer you another centre.
Do you take finasteride or dutasteride?

These lower PSA, so our team adjusts your result at triage.

MRI safety

Do you have, or have you ever had, any of the following? A radiographer will go through the full safety checklist with you before your scan.

An aneurysm clip, cochlear implant, or programmable neurostimulator
A pacemaker or ICD (now, or at any time in the past)
A programmable hydrocephalus shunt
Are you referring yourself, or do you have a GP or consultant referral letter?

This pathway is for private (self-pay) patients. It is not available through private medical insurance.

About you

We ask because prostate cancer risk is higher in men of Black African, Caribbean and Black British heritage, and because we report on equity of access.

If your PSA is well above the threshold for your age, please call us before booking, or speak to a urologist. A scan may not be the right first step.

Your GP

We send your result to your GP as well as to you, so please give us their details.
