A private ultrasound scan at Prime Health is available at all four centres. A referral is required, and if you do not have one we can arrange a private GP appointment. Ultrasound uses sound waves rather than radiation, so it is safe to repeat and often the right first look at soft tissue, the abdomen and the pelvis. Reported by a consultant radiologist within a short turnaround.
What an ultrasound is good for
Ultrasound is live, which makes it excellent for looking at soft tissue, tendons and joints in movement, and for the abdominal and pelvic organs. Because there is no radiation it can be repeated safely. A referral is required before we scan, which we can arrange for you.
What happens on the day
A sonographer or radiologist moves a probe over the area while watching the images in real time. Most scans take 15 to 30 minutes.
