We run a 1.5T Siemens & Philips MRI scanner, seven days a week from 8am to 8pm, the widest availability of any of our centres, and one of very few private centres in Sussex offering full Sunday scanning. Consultant radiologist reporting on every scan. No referral required.

1.5T vs 3T, the honest answer
Higher field strength is not always better. For most musculoskeletal, neurological and body-imaging work, 3T gives sharper detail and shorter scan times. But if you have any implanted device, surgical metalwork or a joint replacement, 1.5T is often the safer and more useful choice. Our clinical team assesses every patient's imaging need at booking and, where a 3T scan would answer your question better, we will tell you and can arrange it at our Weybridge, Harley Street or Stockport centre.
What MRI is good for
Joints, spine, brain, abdominal and pelvic organs, anywhere soft-tissue detail matters. Because MRI uses no radiation, it does not need a referral and can be repeated safely.
What happens on the day
Arrive at the Amex, park on site and check in. The safety questionnaire, a private changing area, then the scan itself, typically 20 to 40 minutes depending on the area. A consultant radiologist reports within a short turnaround. With your consent, the report reaches your referring clinician and your own GP.

Our Brighton MRI centre, the Brighton Diagnostic Treatment Centre, is on Preston Road, at the Amex Stadium. Serving Brighton, Hove, Lewes, Newhaven, Worthing, and much of East and West Sussex, with good road access from the A23 and A27.
When is the centre open?
We are open seven days a week, 8am to 8pm, including full appointments on a Sunday. The widest availability of any of our centres. Sunday MRI is particularly popular with patients who work weekdays.
Do I need a referral for an MRI in Brighton?
No, MRI does not use ionising radiation, so it does not need to be requested by an entitled referrer by law. Many patients self-refer.
What scanner do you use at Brighton?
Brighton runs a 1.5T Siemens & Philips MRI scanner. Our other centres run 3T scanners; 1.5T is a different tool rather than a lesser one, and for some patients it is actually the better one.
Why choose 1.5T MRI rather than 3T?
More implants, replacement joints and surgical metalwork are safe to be scanned at 1.5T than at 3T, and 1.5T produces less distortion around metal. If you have a joint replacement, plates, screws or an implanted device, Brighton is often the right centre for you. Where a 3T scanner is the right answer clinically, we can arrange the scan at Weybridge, Harley Street or Stockport.
Is Sunday MRI really available?
Yes. Full Sunday appointments, not emergency-only slots. If you look after someone in the week or you can't take time off work, Sunday scanning is often the deciding factor.

Who reports the scan?

Plenty of parking on site at the Amex, which is a real difference to a central Brighton appointment where parking is difficult.
