A cone beam CT scan produces a detailed three-dimensional image at a lower radiation dose than a conventional CT. Its main use is dental and maxillofacial: teeth, jaws, the sinuses and the bony structures of the face. It is available at Prime Health Weybridge and reported within a short turnaround.
What it is good for
Cone beam CT is the standard for detailed dental and maxillofacial imaging: implant planning, complex extractions, the jaw joints and the sinuses. It can technically image other regions, but it is rarely the right tool for a joint or a limb, where an MRI or a standard CT is better suited.
What happens on the day
The scan is quick and you remain seated or standing while the machine rotates once around the area. A specialist reports the images and we return the report within a short turnaround.
