CT builds a detailed cross-section from many X-ray images. It is the right first test for chest, abdomen, complex bony detail and where speed matters. Where there is no radiation reason to prefer CT, MRI or ultrasound is often the better first look, and we will say so.

The scan itself takes only a few minutes; the appointment is 15 to 30 minutes with preparation. Some scans use a contrast injection where it adds clinical value. A consultant radiologist reports within a short turnaround.
