Shockwave therapy
A non-invasive treatment for persistent tendon and soft-tissue problems, delivered by experienced physiotherapists.
Shockwave therapy uses focused acoustic pulses to stimulate healing in tendons and soft tissue where a long-standing problem has not settled with rest, exercise or standard physiotherapy alone. It is non-invasive, needs no anaesthetic, and each session takes only a few minutes.
What it treats
Shockwave is best supported by evidence for stubborn tendon problems, including:
- Plantar fasciitis (heel pain)
- Achilles tendinopathy
- Tennis elbow (lateral epicondylitis) and golfer's elbow
- Patellar tendinopathy (jumper's knee)
- Greater trochanteric pain (hip)
- Shoulder calcific tendinopathy
How a course works
Most people have between three and five sessions, spaced about a week apart. Each session is short and can be done during a work day. Where imaging would help decide whether shockwave is the right choice, an ultrasound scan can be arranged at the same centre.
Who delivers it
Shockwave at Prime Health is delivered by our physiotherapists, who plan the course around the diagnosis and your goals. Where a scan finds something an image-guided injection would help more, they will tell you honestly.
Prices for shockwave courses are set at the centre, call us on 0330 025 2100 for the current fee and to book.
